In Memory of Merlyn D. Folz


August 18, 1940 - July 9, 2024

Merlyn Dean Folz, aged 83, of Chetek, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024.

Born on August 18, 1940, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, he was the beloved son of Wilmer and Alma Folz.

Merlyn was a dedicated public servant and community leader throughout his life. He served as the Director of Public Works in Chetek for many years, where he made significant contributions to the town's infrastructure and development. Additionally, he served as Fire Chief and EMT, tirelessly ensuring the safety and well-being of his fellow residents and neighbors.

Beyond his professional roles, Merlyn was deeply involved in community activities. He was known for his passionate support of various causes, including fundraising efforts for Relay for Life, the K9 Police Unit, setting up the town’s Christmas Lights, and the Catholic Youth. His commitment to these endeavors left a lasting impact on Chetek and its residents.

In retirement, Merlyn found joy in woodworking, crafting beautiful pieces that showcased his skill and creativity. He participated in craft shows, where his work was admired and appreciated by many. He will be deeply missed by many and all who knew him.

Merlyn was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer and Alma Folz, his brothers Jerry and David, and his brothers-in-law Gary, Charles and Don.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barb Folz, and his siblings: Francis, Carol (Larry), Alice (Allen), Kathy (Dave), Dorothy, Marty (Morris), Diane, Debbie (Mark), Rick (Carla), and Don (Terry), as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

Merlyn Dean Folz will be fondly remembered for his unwavering dedication to his community, his warm personality, and his passion for woodworking. He leaves behind a legacy of service and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

The Family requests that no flowers be purchased and sent, thank you.

A Memorial Mass will be held at the St. Boniface Church in Chetek, Wisconsin on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and go until the time of the service. The family invites those attending to a luncheon in the church’s fellowship hall following mass.

The Burnham-Ours-Kolstad Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
