In Memory of Melvin Elliott, Jr


May 1, 1956 - July 8, 2019

Melvin “Mel” R. Elliott, Jr., age 63, of Markville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 8, 2019.

Mel was born on May 1, 1956, in Robbinsdale, MN, to parents, Eleanor (Burson) and Melvin Elliott, Sr. The eldest of four children, Mel grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Sandstone High School in 1974. Mel worked alongside Donny Vanderbeek for DJ Star Construction for over 34 years. Mel truly enjoyed working and was also a self-employed plumber and well driller for many years.

Mel was a true outdoorsman and mountain man. Mel was a true woodsman that trapped, hunted, fished and rode horses his entire life. Mel was known for his sweet tooth, his favorite being ice cream. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Preceding Mel in death are his parents; sister, Julie Vanasse; son-in-law, Chad Hansen; and grandson, Luke Witt.

Mel is survived by his loving wife, Jan; children: Jennifer (Wayne) Elliott, Gary (Kelly) Miller, Kendra Hansen, Cory (Jen) Miller; grandchildren: Curley Elliott, Taylor (Ethan) Koehler, Courtney Valleskey, Jordyn Hansen, Brianna Miller, Mariah Miller, Addie Quirt, Raena Miller and Travis Linden; brothers, William (Peggy) Elliott and Todd (Diane) Elliott; brother-in-law, Jason Vanasse; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2019, from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Webster. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2019, at 1:00pm (visitation from 12:00pm -1:00pm) at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Webster.

Honorary Pallbearers are: Gary Yunker, Donny Vanderbeek, Barnie Robinson, Mike Burson, Mark Burson and Charlie Antill.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Webster.
