Melvin Duane Gasper, age 65, of Lac Courte Oreilles, WI, died Saturday, May 6, 2023.

Melvin was born July 22, 1957, in Chicago, IL , the son of Mary “Cubby” Carley. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren teaching them how to harvest, ricing, pick boughs, and make baskets & wreaths. Melvin enjoyed playing Keno, singing and fishing but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children Mario (Won) Gasper, Courtney (Andy) Miller, Amanda (Jason) Johnson, Angel Quaderer, Anthony Trepania, Shane Gasper & Jodi (Nate) Gasper; many grandchildren; siblings Ed Martin, Jerry (Kaye) Martin, Anita Begay & Donny Campbell; many nephews & nieces.

Melvin was preceded in death by his mother Mary “Cubby” Carley; daughter Jerica Gasper; siblings Mary Sue Merrill, Judy Martin, Will Carley, LuAnn Martin & Linda Martin.

Tribal Funeral Rites will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward. Gary Quaderer Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Whitefish Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 10th at the funeral home.

Honorary casket bearers will be Andy Bastin, Edward Conger, Marvin Corbine, Ronald Gokey, Myron Lemieux, Gerald Malone, Bubba Martin, Julian Martin, Caleb Miller, Reuben Peirre, Nathan Quaderer, Donald “Bug” Trepania Jr., Robert Trepania & Trent Trepania.

Casket bearers will be Anthony Conger, Nate Conger, Deagan Gasper, Gavin Gasper, T.J. Quaderer, Mario Sharlow, Anthony Sharlow & Alex White.
