In Memory of Melanie Meacham


July 11, 1951 - October 25, 2023

Melanie Meacham, age 72, a resident of Spooner, died on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Spooner Health in Spooner.

Melanie was born on July 11, 1951, in Menomonie, Wisconsin to parents Dwight and Josephine (Edmunds) Poquette.

She was the youngest of 5 children and was raised in Elmwood, Wisconsin. At the age of 13, her father died and the family then moved to a farm near Plum City after her mother remarried. Melanie was an avid motorcycle rider with her high school friend Jane and graduated Elmwood High School in 1969. At the age of 19, she was married, and although later divorced, 2 children were born to this union. Melanie worked at the Elmwood Heritage Nursing Home until 1980 when them moved to Pepin. While in Pepin, she worked at the Pepin Manor Nursing Home until her move to Red Wing, Minnesota. While living in Red Wing, she worked in management at the Treasure Island Resort and Casino for many years. In 2000, she moved to Spooner where the family had vacationed for many years. Melanie found work in Spooner at Economart where she worked in management also. In 2007, Melanie was united in marriage to Francis “Fritz” Meacham in Spooner.

Melanie is survived by her children Jennifer Girard of Spooner and Matthew Girard of Spooner, grandson Daniel Girard, brother Ellis Poquette of Elmwood, WI, nephew Christopher Radtke, niece Chelley Radtke, special friends Carol Strenke, Connie Bradway, Denise Marcks and family, Shawn and Rosie, and many other extended family and friends.

Melanie is preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters: William Poquette, Suzie Radtke, Jeffrey Poquette, infant brother Edward, and niece Tracey Radtke.

A Celebration of Melanie’s life will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 6pm, at the Spooner Funeral Home in Spooner with Pastor Cliff Larrabee officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be at the Funeral Home on December 7, from 5 to 6pm prior to the service.
