In Memory of Mary E. Zappa


August 21, 1918 - February 1, 2024

Mary Elizabeth Zappa, 105, of Cumberland died Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Care and Rehab-Cumberland.

She was born August 21, 1918, in Cumberland, WI to Pasquale and Jennie (Zappa) Monno. She graduated from Cumberland High School in 1937, and was married in Cumberland on October 14, 1939, to Anthony R. Zappa. She worked for the box factory for several years, then 3M for over three decades making sandpaper belts. She was very active in her church (including being named St. Anthony's Pax Christi Nominee), and was named Cumberland's Woman of the year in 2007 at the age of 88.

She loved to knit, crochet, macrame, hardanger, cook, garden and can, quilt, play bridge, but truly loved spending quality time with her family, particularly for the holidays.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Anthony on March 31, 2003; seven brothers: John, Joseph, Sam, Anthony, James, Raymond, Pat; five sisters, Jennie (Mario) Ranelli, Betty (Herb) Korf, Lucy (Dick) Kaiser, Ann (Herb) Brusletten, Josephine (Jack) Calder; and granddaughter, Gina.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Baribeau of Rice Lake, and son, Dennis Zappa of Cumberland; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; her sister, Cecelia (Edward) Skorski of Minneapolis, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 9, 2024 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Tom Thompson officiating and burial to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Pallbearers are Tony J. Zappa, Kristi Zappa, Mark Baribeau, Greg Baribeau, Chad Baribeau, and Kevin Baribeau. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday February 8, 2024, at the Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland and for 1 hour prior to the Mass.
