In Memory of Mary C. Livingston


August 21, 1928 - November 27, 2022

Mary Cleora (Cleo) Livingston of Shell Lake, Wisconsin passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, WI after a lengthy illness. She was 94 years old.

Mary was born to Dewey and Hazel Johnson of Shell Lake, WI on August 21, 1928.

She graduated from Cumberland High School in 1946. Mary married the love her life, Gilbert Livingston on June 16, 1947. Mary and Gilbert moved to the St. Paul, MN area in 1953 and raised a family of five children there.

Being an excellent cook, Mary worked at Mounds Park Hospital for many years in the hospital kitchen. Gilbert and Mary moved back to Shell Lake, where they retired. After raising five of her own, Mary's love of children led her to care for many neighborhood kids in the Shell Lake area who adopted her as 'Grandma Mary'.

Since she was an only child, Mary loved family gatherings. These gatherings were a big part of her life.

Mary is survived by her husband of 75 years, Gilbert L. Livingston, children Vicki Livingston, Jeanette Lee (Bill), Jim Livingston (Karen) and Gary Livingston (Mary), fourteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by son, David Livingston and grandson, Kyle Besseler.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the Shell Lake United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Jean Waldron and son-in-law, Pastor Bill Lee. There will be a luncheon to follow. Inurnment will take place on Friday, December 9 at 2pm at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans' Cemetery, Spooner WI.
