Marvin Kenneth Nielsen Age 85, of Rice Lake, WI died Thursday, June 20, 2019 surrounded by his family at the Marshfield Medical Center in Rice Lake.

He was born on January 7, 1934 in Superior, WI to Thorvald and Alma (Bargman) Nielsen and his parents were both born in Denmark. Marvin graduated from the Superior Central High School and then attended UW Superior State College. He was married to Eleanor Olson on November 5, 1954 in Barron, WI. Marvin started at Gustafson’s Ice Cream and Dairy Company delivering milk house to house and then co-owned and operated the company with Maynard Voelker for many years. Marvin was a family man and loved being surrounded by his family. He published 3 pictorial books on trains and had a love for railroads since he was 8 years old. Marvin enjoyed cooking, grilling out and working in his rose gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Nielsen of Rice Lake; 3 children, Bob (Diane) Nielsen of Minocqua, WI, Kathy Nielsen of Rice Lake and Jean Nielsen Taylor of Rice Lake; 5 grandchildren, Tony (Sheri) Rohde, Lisa (Scott) Judd, Jared, Kristi and Anna Taylor; a great grandson, Ben Rohde and a great granddaughter on the way; and nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thorvald and Alma Nielsen; 3 brothers, Karel, Ivan and Bernard Nielsen; and a sister, Alice Pierce.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30AM Thursday, June 27, 2019 at the Wayside Cemetery in Barron, WI. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM Wednesday at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake.
