In Memory of Martha M. Jacobson


February 4, 1932 - July 16, 2022

Martha Matilda Jacobson Age 90, of Rice Lake, WI, died Saturday, July 16, 2022 in Marshfield, WI with her nieces by her side.

She was born on February 4, 1932 in Boyceville, WI to Joseph and Anna (Kurhajec) Evaska.

Martha lived in a log house on a farm in Connorsville, WI then moved to Chicago for a brief period of time attending Kindergarten then returning to Boyceville and attending Oak Lawn all country school and Boyceville High School graduating in 1949. After High School she worked in Minneapolis, including Honeywell until marriage to James Jacobson on May 31, 1958. They moved to Turtle Lake, WI where “Jake” taught choral and instrumental music and Martha worked at Northwestern State Bank in Cumberland, NSP in Amery and the Bank of Turtle Lake until moving to Rice Lake in 1970 then at the Dairy State Bank until 1985. Martha was active in her church, Bethany Lutheran Church, in Altar Guild and Martha Circle, served for many functions and had a real love and passion for making quilts with her group for Lutheran World Relief. She also made baby quilts for her circle project. She loved life, family and friends. She enjoyed concerts, plays and volunteering at the Food Pantry and delivering Meals-on-Wheels. She enjoyed traveling - to Florida and other countries, going to the casino and traveled to Jamaica for 3 years for missionary work. Martha enjoyed golfing, bowling, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and especially board games with her family. She enjoyed baking cookies and other treats which were enjoyed by her family and friends. She was an avid fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers and took a fan bus in 2002 and she was voted the “Fan of the Day”.

She is survived by 6 nieces, Alison (Dave) Thorpe, Shelley (Gary) Nelson, April Svoboda, Ann (Mike) Vujica, Brenda (Doug) Haas and Julie Timm Wood; a special family, Bob and Lorraine Jacobson and their three children and families; many great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jake” Jacobson; her parents, Joseph and Anna Evaska; 2 sisters, Lydia (Richard) Svoboda and Wilma (Calvin) Timm.

Funeral Services will be held at 11AM Monday, July 25, 2022 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, with interment in Spring Lake Cemetery in Elmwood, WI. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake is assisting the family with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Bethany Lutheran Church or Bethany Lutheran Quilters.
