In Memory of Martha Derrick
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our loving and devoted wife, mother and friend to all whose lives she touched. Martha Mary Derrick, age 84, of Webster, WI passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at her home.
Martha was born February 21, 1935 in Sarona, WI the daughter of Albert and Eva (Wenzel) Jilek. She attended school in Shell Lake, WI where she graduated from high school in 1952. After her schooling, Martha went to work as a bank teller in Spooner, WI. On April 12, 1958 Martha was joined in marriage to Gaylen Lee Derrick in Shell Lake, WI. Martha and Gaylen settled on a homestead in Scott Township where they began their farm. Together they raised their family, operated a dairy farm, and renovated the original homestead. Martha was a very hard worker. From milking cows to throwing bails of hay, she was right there to work alongside her family. Martha was also well known for welcoming everyone in to join around the family table. In later years, Martha and Gaylen changed to beef farming where Martha especially enjoyed the newborn calves in the spring. She also enjoyed gardening, being with her children and grandchildren, and fishing. Martha was an active member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church in Scott Township where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and with the ladies aide of the church. She also served as a ballot teller for the Scott Township for many years. Martha will be remembered most for her kindness and unconditional love for others.
Martha is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gaylen; five children, Kevin (Lori) Derrick of Deer Park, WI, Gary Derrick of Lino Lakes, MN, Craig Derrick of Spooner, WI, Sheryl (Gregory) Campbell of Chisago City, MN, Tim (Darcy) Derrick of Zimmerman, MN; eleven grandchildren, Jami, Jessi, Jodi, Kori, Tommy, Tyler, Brice, Cameron, Corby, Ryan and Katie; ten great grandchildren, Gabe, Anna, David, Carter, Tyler, Makenna, Grace, Dylan, Kora and Kroix; four siblings, Eddie Jilek, Bernie Jilek, Betty Haughian and Dorothy Conroy; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death and welcomed home by her parents, two sisters; Margie and Joann, and beloved angel babies.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Martha at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church in Scott Township, WI. A time of gathering with family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
