Marlys Renee Spencer was born on the 4th of July, 1936 and passed away peacefully with family members by her side on October 24, 2019.

She moved with her parents, Robert J. and Margaret H. Fulkerson, to New Richmond, Osceola and eventually to Frederic, Wisconsin. She graduated from Frederic High School in 1954. Marlys married Charles Spencer on October 12, 1957. They purchased a home in Frederic, where Marlys lived until just recently when she moved into United Pioneer Home in Luck.

Marlys enjoyed reading and writing, listening to music, singing, vacationing, dancing, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends just visiting. She so loved the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Marlys was involved in many organizations in the Frederic area. She belonged to the Masters of the Universe Bridge Group, Tuesday Evening Bridge Club, St. Luke’s Choir, 20th Century Club, and St. Luke’s Worship Committee. She was a charter member of the Frederic Lioness Club and also the Frederic Scholarship Committee for many years. Her favorite time was when the students stopped to pick up their checks. They never left without a full discussion of what school they were attending and their chosen field of study. Marlys especially enjoyed her time as a board member of the Frederic Public Library for many years.

Marlys worked for the Frederic School District for 41 years as the Financial Secretary. Her other great passion was seeing that the community never ran out of Avon products, which she sold for most of her adult life. While these were ‘jobs’, Marlys truly treasured the people that she met during those years, and those friendships lasted her entire life.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles; parents, Robert and Margaret Fulkerson; and brother, Thomas Fulkerson.

Marlys will be dearly missed by her children, Charvey (Joan) Spencer and Patrick Spencer; grandchildren, Amanda Spencer, Ross (Ashley) Spencer, Justin (Kelly) Mattson, Corey (Deirdre) O’Donovan and Colin (Kasie) O’Donovan; great-grandchildren, Lydia Spencer, Rian Crouse, Baylor Mattson, Daxton O’Donovan and Finnegan O’Donovan; sister, Kathryn Williams; uncle, Pete Fulkerson; aunts, Shirley Locher and Elma McCoy; and brother-in-law, Ernie Tromberg. She leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Come and help us celebrate the life of Marlys on Friday, November 1, 2019 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Frederic. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a service at 11:00 a.m. with a lunch to follow. Memorials to Frederic Scholarship Committee, Frederic Library or St. Luke’s United Methodist Church can be made in lieu of flowers.
