In Memory of Marlys E. Orf


January 7, 1939 - July 6, 2024

Marlys Elaine Orf, 85, of Cumberland died July 6, 2024. She was born January 7, 1939 in River Falls, Wisconsin, to Lloyd and Myra (Johnson) Evenson. Marlys graduated as the salutatorian at Roberts High School in 1957. She married Vernon Orf in Burkhardt, Wisconsin on June 10, 1961 and settled in Somerset where they raised their daughter, Kristine. Marlys moved to the Cumberland area in 2004.

Marlys loved sports and played on the women’s softball team for the Cave Inn in Roberts. She attended the University of Wisconsin River Falls for Biomechanics. Marlys was the bookkeeper for Orf Construction, she also worked for Plourde Hardware in Hudson, DoBoy Packaging Machinery and American Design in New Richmond.

Marlys was a long-time member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Burkhardt and in more recent years attended Trinity Lutheran Church in McKinley. She loved having people stop by to play cards. She loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, horseback riding and caring for her chickens and guinea hens. Marlys spent many years raising Boston Terriers and enjoyed the company of her Boston Terrier, Candi.

Left to mourn her loss is her daughter, Kristine and son-in-law, Randy Mattson. Her grandchildren Kevin (Jessi) Meeds; Scott Meeds; Adrian (Sara) Mattson and Ariane (Charlie) Zellmer. Her sister, Susanne Hopkins; brother, Vernon Evenson and sister-in-law, Carol Evenson. Along with cherished nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Myra Evenson; her husband, Vernon Orf; sister, Lois Weber; brother, Dale Evenson; brother-in-laws, LeRoy Hopkins and Lawrence Weber; sister-in-law, Jean Evenson; Nephew, Rodney Evenson and great-niece Kayla Evenson.

A celebration of life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in McKinley on Sunday, July 14 th at 2 p.m. Visitation will take place at 1 p.m. There will be a private burial at the Willow River Cemetery in Hudson at a later date.
