In Memory of Marlene Reeder
Marlene (Marl) May Nydegger Reeder, age 82, of Hayward, WI died peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends, on Monday, September 16, 2019. She was born on May 20th, 1937 in Monroe, Wisconsin. She was a 1955 graduate of Monroe High School. Marlene received her bachelor's degree in 1959 from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, where she was an active member of the Antheneum sorority. She received two master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater in 1963 and 1970. Jackson and Marlene were married August 6, 1961 at St. John's Church in Monroe. They spent 58 years together working side by side with many projects and at the Reeder’s Recess Resort they owned for 43 years on Chippewa Flowage near Hayward, Wisconsin.
Marlene was featured in the 1970 edition of Outstanding Young Women of America. She served as the first district junior director for the Wisconsin Federation of Women's Club for years and as a board member for the organization. She taught school in Rockford Illinois, as well as Beloit, Clinton, and Hayward, Wisconsin for a total of 42 years. After retirement, she became active in numerous area boards of directors in the Hayward area until her time was cut short with cancer.
Marlene is survived by her husband, Jackson; children Scott (Stacy) Reeder; brother, John Etter (Gloria) Madison; sister, Martha Leudeking, Monroe, sister Mary Flynn (Matt) Milwaukee; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her oldest son John Stewart Reeder; her only grandson Alexander Hayden Reeder; brothers Robert John and Rudy (Sandy) Lendholm, Mineral Point; and loving parents John (J.T.) and Katheryn Etter.
The family has requested no flowers. Remembrances may be donated to any of her beloved organizations including the Chippewa Flowage Resort Association, Hayward Community Food Shelf, Hayward Habitat for Humanity, or the Humane Society of the United States. A private family graveside service will be held in the Clinton, Wisconsin cemetery at a later date.
