Mark Allan Aderman, 61, of Barronett, Wisconsin, passed peacefully into his Lord’s loving arms on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born September 24, 1961, in Shell Lake, WI to O. Darrell and Marion “Billie” Wilma (Hope) Aderman.

Mark graduated from Shell Lake Public High School, earned his Eagle Scout, and received his Bachelor of Music Education (BME) from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. After teaching two years in the Ellsworth School District, Mark moved to Greeley, CO to complete his graduate work. He earned his Masters of Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) in Greeley, CO, and an Educational Doctorate from UNC. During his tenure at UNC, he also functioned as the Assistant Director of Jazz Studies and Assistant to the Director of the School of Music. This administrative experience first led him to become the Director of Grant Writing and Prospect Research at UNC and later, the Director of the UW-Indianhead Arts and Education Center, now known as the Shell Lake Arts Center. Mark was the Director of Bands at Spooner Area School District from 1999 to 2019 before resigning to address health concerns.

Mark remained an active professional trombone performer and jazz clinician in the Midwest and continued to seek out performance venues for himself and his students. He was a member of Phi Beta Mu, Music Educators National Conference, National Band Association, Wisconsin Music Educators Association, Free & Accepted Masons, and the Scottish Rite.

He lived with his beloved Labradors while enjoying grounding himself by spending quality time immersed in nature. Mark was a consummate sportsman with a deep and abiding affection for the outdoors. He was an ardent hunter of deer, goose, and pheasant. But those who knew him well, realized that whether in The Dakotas, Canada, or on his beloved Shell Lake, Mark was never happier than when he held a fishing rod in his hand. He could find and catch walleyes like no one else.

Mark is survived by his sisters, Sheila Aderman (Stan) Squires, Rev. Carmala Jean Aderman, and Tamara Hope Aderman (Scott) Smith; two nieces, Natalie Hope Smith and Abigail Elizabeth Smith; one uncle, Donald Raymond (Patricia Koel) Aderman; special friend, Bonnie Modjeski; and countless other family and friends. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Darrell Aderman and by his mother, “Billie” Aderman, on September 7, 2023.

Mark’s Celebration of Life service will be held in conjunction with his mother’s at 1:30 p.m. in the Shell Lake Arts Center Darrell Aderman Auditorium with visitation at 12 p.m.

The family thanks the network of family, many friends, and caregivers who assisted Mark with his health concerns the past several years.
