In Memory of Marjorie A. Newville

June 8, 1934 - January 3, 2025

Marjorie (Marge) Ann Newville, 90, of DeForest, formerly of Sun City, AZ, and Barron, passed away at her home on Friday, January 3, 2025.

She was born on June 8, 1934, to Lewis (Howard) and Mae Zehner at her grandparents’ home on the Thornapple Dam between Bruce and Ladysmith. She grew up on the river and then moved into the town of Bruce for high school.

Marge married Marlin Newville on August 22, 1954. They moved to Waco, TX, for eight years while Marlin was active in the Air Force. They then moved to Fond du Lac in 1961 as he continued his service. She started teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Fond du Lac County. She taught there for three years, then moved to Evans Elementary School until 1967. In the summer of 1967, Marge and Marlin moved to Barron, where she taught elementary school until retiring in 1992. Teaching was always her passion – it was truly what she was meant to do – and she carried that passion all the way through to the end. She was quick to share her gratitude for the many students she had the chance to work with and loved seeing how they grew up and became successful as they moved through their various stages of life.

Marge enjoyed spending time with her six grandchildren and her six great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included sewing, bowling, and what her family aptly describes as “getting lost in the casino.” She traveled to many places with her three sisters, a hobby that exposed her to many different cultures and experiences. In 2001, she bought a condo in Sun City, AZ, with her sister, Millie Aken. She loved her nearly 20 years in the desert and enjoyed visits from family members throughout the years. In 2020, she moved back to DeForest to be close to her great-grandbabies.

Marge and Marlin have three surviving children: Danny (Nancy) Newville of Weston; Debra Berndt of DeForest; and Derek (Traci) Newville of Chetek. She has six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Tom and Katy Lea (Hayden (4), Dylan (2)); Aaron and Kim Newville; Adam (Kaitlyn McGillis “Mac”) Newville; RaeAnne and Craig Turner (Owen (6 months)); Molly and Jon Hohol (Chloe (2), Avery (6 months)); Katie and Nate Walsh.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and two sisters. Marge continually spoke about Marlin and her love for him until the day she passed. He passed in 1992, and she continued living her life under a strong faith in our lord and the values and virtues that they had established together as they created the family that she loved so dearly. The family feels peace knowing that Marge and Marlin are now reunited, in addition to her reunion with those family members who passed before her.

Marge truly was one of a kind, and her spirit will continue living forward in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Funeral proceedings will happen at Salem Lutheran Church in Barron with a visitation from 9:30-11:00 a.m. and a service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11.
