In Memory of Marilyn J. Borofka
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Joyce Borofka on August 6, 2024 at the age of 88.
Marilyn was born in Athens, Wisconsin, on January 25, 1936, to Martha and Conrad Kremsreiter.
She graduated from Athens High School in 1954. After graduation she moved to Minneapolis to work as a telephone operator. She later traveled to California where she met and married her first husband, Walter Field. Marilyn was married to be her beloved husband, Dean Allen Borofka, for nearly 50 years. They spent those years together enjoying activities they both loved… traveling, fishing, hunting and golfing. Marilyn was known for her strong will, determination and love for her family and community. Along with her husband, she was a devout member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Campia. Telephone operator and bank teller were the main positions Marilyn held that took her to retirement. She was one of the last telephone operators in Rice Lake before they became obsolete in 1978. After retiring, she spent many years serving Our Savior’s Lutheran Church as worship deacon, head of the women’s ministry, as well as financial secretary for the northwest region of the WELCA. She was a meticulous and skilled quilter, making stunning quilts for her family. Many church bazaars and other fundraising endeavors were the recipient of her sewing skills. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and traveling. Her uncanny luck at winning raffle prizes and jackpots was the envy of many. As an exceptional bowler, she won so many trophies her teammates nicknamed her “Miss Piggy”.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Conrad and Martha Kremsreiter, brother, Dale Kremsreiter, sister, Marlene Guden, grandson, Gregory Meyers, brother-in-law, Jerry Wagner, brother-in-law, Brian Borofka and sister-in-law, Cheryl Wollersheim. Also surviving Marilyn are 29 great-grandchildren, brother, George (Beverly) Kremsreiter, sisters Carol Wagner and Linda (Greg) Osimitz , and sister-in-law Linda Borofka. She will be missed by her black cat, Maggie the mini monster.
