Marie Gerda Schillberg, 94, of New Richmond passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at The Deerfield.

She was born December 3, 1928 in Almena, WI to Gerd and Marie Louise (Stelter) Bents.

She was married to Henry Kunkel for nearly 44 years before he preceded her in death on July 23, 1992. With Henry she had three children, Hank, Linda, and Eugene. Marie later married John Schillberg, who preceded her in death in 2017.

Marie was a natural born caregiver, both personally and professionally. She found many ways to fill her time, whether that be traveling with daughter, Linda, “going for a drive”, working on puzzles, or solving word games - these hobbies kept her busy well into her later years. She invested much time in the lives of her family and spoke highly of them to others. Above all, she cherished visits with her family, neighbors, fellow members of her congregation, and pastor.

Marie is survived by sons, Hank (Marge) Kunkel of Menomonie, WI and Eugene (Juliann) Kunkel of Minneapolois, MN; daughter, Linda (David) Andersen of New Richmond, WI; grandchildren, Nicole (Matt) Seehafer, Melissa (Rick) Deutsch, Joe (Jackie) Kunkel, Jennifer (Ben) Golden, Jonathan Andersen (Jessie Tallarico), Stephanie Kunkel, Genna Kunkel, and Anna (Eric) Abrams; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Alma (William) Hahn; and sister-in-law, Vera Bents.

She is preceded in death by husbands, Henry and John; parents, Gerd and Marie, and 16 siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, November 3rd at Zion Lutheran Church, Almena with Pastor Brassow officiating. Interment Zion Lutheran Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial. Pallbearers are Joe Kunkel, Rick Deutsch, Matt Seehafer, Jonathan Andersen, Eric Abrams, and Ben Golden.

Visitation will be from 10 AM - 11 AM at church.
