In Memory of Marie Hanley
Marie Catherine Hanley, 80, of Cumberland died Thursday, April 25, 2019 at her home. She was born June 12, 1938 in Little Falls, MN to Clement and Catherine (Nalewaja) Hassing. Marie was raised in Randall, MN and graduated from Little Falls High School and later St. Cloud State University with a teaching degree. She taught in Wayzata, MN, where she met Eugene Hanley. They were married on August 1, 1964, and in 1967 she left teaching to raise her family. Later, she became a religious education coordinator at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Anoka, MN. In 1989 they moved to Alexandria, MN to operate Lake Carlos Marina for 10 years. They retired to Rice Lake, WI to be closer to their children.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, baking, cooking, bird watching and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband, Gene of Cumberland; children: John (Robin) Hanley of Minong, Thomas Hanley of Golden Valley, MN, and Maureen (Mark) Wagers of Wausau; grandchildren: Jamie Hanley, Rachel Hanley, Jordan Hanley, Lauren Hanley, Annaliese Wagers, and Elias Wagers; great grandchildren: Landon, Jaxon and Kinsley; siblings: Margaret Determan of Denver, CO, Rita (Ewald) Peterson of Big Lake, MN, Agnes "Lari" Lieser of St. Martin, MN, Jane (Ken) Hemesch of St. Cloud, MN, Edward (Jo) Hassing of Randall, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Marie was preceded in death by her son, Mark and her sister, Carol Kersting.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Cumberland with Father Tom Thompson officiating and burial will follow at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday.
