In Memory of Marian Dorothy 'Dottie' Hill
Marian Dorothy “Dottie” Hill, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Birchwood, Wisconsin.
She was born March 16, 1931 in Brewster, Ohio to the late John and Flossie (McCormick) Hill.
She graduated from The Ohio State University in 1953 where she played field hockey for the Buckeyes, earning national recognition.
She later earned a Master’s degree at Kent State University. Dottie was an extraordinary teacher and coach in Cleveland's girls’ physical education organizations. At Shaker Heights High School, she served as Girls Physical Education Department Chair in the early 1970s. When Title IX was passed in 1972, she was one of the first in implementing girls’ interscholastic programs in the greater Cleveland area. She touched many students' and colleagues' lives through her support, perseverance, and enthusiasm. Dottie loved her pets and enjoyed gardening, birding, fishing, and cheering on the OSU Buckeyes. Above all she enjoyed Red Cedar Lake, whether it be fishing or just being there with her friends. Dottie was a beloved Sister, Aunt and dear friend of many, significantly and especially Jonne Shiley.
Dottie is survived by several nephews and nieces, including Craig (Ann) Cawrse; David (Lois) Cawrse; Amy Cawrse; Lynda (Steve) Brown, and Lynette (Milton) Jones.
She was preceded in death by her brother Donald Haley; sister Bertha Elizabeth “Betty” Peel (née Hill), and sister Ann Jane Cawrse (née Hill).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Red Cedar Lakes Association – Nature Committee P.O. Box 214 Birchwood, WI 54817.
