In Memory of Margie L. Compeau

May 10, 1936 - May 9, 2018

May 10, 1936  -  May 9, 2018

Margie L. Compeau, age 81, of Waco, TX and formerly of Spooner, WI passed away on Wednesday, May 09, 2018 at Sodalis Senior Living in Waco, TX.

Margie Lou was born May 10, 1936 in Aitkin, MN the daughter and first born of Rudolph and Lois (Williams) Eld.  She was raised in Aitkin, McGregor and Hermantown, MN areas and graduated from high school in Hermantown.  Following high school, Margie moved to Duluth, MN to work as a secretary at Dun and Bradstreet, and lived at the YWCA. She was introduced to Dale Compeau on a blind date, roller skating in Pine City, MN, where Dale comically and inexplicably left her to ride home with her friends.  They continued dating, however, and Margie and Dale were soon joined in marriage on November 2, 1957 at the Viola Lake Church near Webster, WI.  They lived in Superior for several years before moving to Spooner, WI where Dale had begun teaching high school.

Margie was a dedicated homemaker and mother, raising her four children while also doing ironing and babysitting for other mothers. Margie even worked for a time at a nearby cranberry farm, picking sticks and frogs out of the fall cranberry harvest bound for Ocean Spray. As a charter member of the Lake Park Alliance Church she remained active in the Women’s Fellowship group, taught Sunday School, prepared Communion each month, and collected used Bibles to send to missionaries overseas.  She enjoyed tending to her flower beds, gardening, feeding and watching  the birds, watching deer in the backyard, sewing clothes for family and friends, canning, and baking--with her banana bread being a weekly mission of love for church members and the annual kid’s camp.  She loved making casseroles for church potlucks. Being a dauntless rummage sale browser and clearance shopper, she helped provide for her children and grandchildren, thus teaching them thriftiness and good stewardship. She lived her life with a servant’s heart, and was very devoted to her friends and family.

Margie is survived by her four children, Renee (Timothy) Sheppard of Waco, TX (children, Kendra, Jameson (Kirena), Larisa (Josh Brown), and Kyle) - Michelle (Rodney) Ankrom of Rhinelander, WI (children, Jonathan  and Jennifer); Michael Compeau of Chesterland, OH (children, Alexander and Josephine); -   Marc Compeau of Sarona, WI; eight grandchildren (as listed above); two brothers, Richard (Jan) Eld of Duluth, MN, Jerrold (Julie) Eld of Leesburg, FL ; one sister, Ruth Anne Schelinder of Duluth, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dale.

A funeral service celebrating Margie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, at Lake Park Alliance Church in Shell Lake, WI.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church.  Interment will be in the Viola Lake Cemetery near Webster, WI.
