In Memory of Marcia Ryan

August 4, 1941 - October 3, 2024

Marcia Ryan, age 83, a resident of Duluth, MN, and a longtime resident of Trego, WI, died on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Essentia Health in Duluth.

Marcia was born on August 4, 1941, in the family farmhouse east of Trego, to parents Oscar and Eva (Peterson) Micken. She attended the Trego School for a short time before moving with her family to Washington State and then back to Superior, where she graduated Superior Central High School. Although she was away from Trego during her school years, she spent her summers with family in Trego. After high school she worked at Superior Water, Light, & Power. During this time, she met Danny Ryan, who was attending the University of Wisconsin-Superior, and they were married on August 26, 1961, in Superior. The couple moved to Madison so Danny could finish his last year of college. After his graduation, he was hired by the State of Wisconsin and was moved throughout the state until taking a job in Spooner in 1972. They purchased their home in Trego, where Marcia would live until November of 2022, when she moved to Duluth.

Marcia was an avid bowler. She began bowling while they were living in Eau Claire in 1967, and continued until 2010. The highlight of her bowling career was when she won the State Bowling Tournament in 1998, bowling for the Spooner Bottling Team. Living in Trego, she enjoyed many of the activities that the area had to offer, which included snowmobiling (even when she had a broken leg!), floating the Namekagon in tubes and canoes, and “put up with” camping with her family. Besides being on the bowling team, she was also on horseshoe and pool leagues. She also enjoyed playing cribbage, card games, cooking Thanksgiving dinners for her large family and friends, and making morning toasts over mimosas.

Marcia is survived by her daughters: Karen (Mike) O’Leary of Golden, CO; Julie Stapp of Castle Pines, CO; and Becky (Kevin) Hoehn of Gordon, WI; 2 grandchildren: Ryan (Stacy) Stapp and Michaela Stapp both of Aurora, CO; great-granddaughter Carter Stapp, and many other extended family and friends.

Marcia is preceded in death by her parents, husband Danny, brother Robert Micken, sister Crystal Williams, and her beloved dogs Stubby and Coco.

Memorial services for Marcia Ryan will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 11 a.m., at the Spooner Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, from 10-11 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Earl Cemetery.
