Magnus (Mag) Sigvald Rasmussen left this earth on July 14, 2020. He was 95 years old. 

Mag was born June 5, 1925 in Luck, Wisconsin to Hans and Kirstine (Nielsen) Rasmussen. 

As a young man, Mag moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and worked in many different jobs.  One of those jobs was as a bartender where one night a lovely, underage young women tried to buy a drink.  Mag refused to serve her, but later that night the two shared a dance.  That woman was Monica (Boots) Genevieve Froelich.  Mag and Boots were married October 13, 1951. 

Mag and Boots started a family in South Saint Paul where Magnus discovered his passion for meat processing.  In the 1960’s Mag and Boots moved their family to Cumberland, Wisconsin where Mag became partners in the Townsend and Pillar Meat Plant.  In 1970, Mag and Boots moved back to Luck and purchased the Luck Locker Plant.  They operated the plant together until the death of Boots in 1983.  

In 1985, Mag sold the Locker Plant and retired.  Mag began spending more time in Danbury, Wisconsin where he and Boots had spent weekends at their trailer.  In 1988 he met Ellie Nelson and the two of them shared their lives together in Danbury.  After Ellie’s death in 2012, Mag moved to the Pioneer Apartments and later to the United Pioneer Nursing Home in Luck. 

Magnus led an active life.  He loved to be outdoors.  He looked forward to fishing and hunting trips with his sons every year.  He put on many miles snowmobiling with Ellie.  He was an active member of the Lions Club where he would grill chicken for many events.  He was honored in 2019 when the Luck softball field was renamed Mag Rasmussen Field for his dedication to establishing the fields in the early 70’s and maintaining the fields. 

Mag will be reunited in heaven with:  his wife, Boots; significant other, Ellie Nelson; an infant son, John; his parents, Hans and Kirstine Rasmussen; siblings, Johnny Rasmussen, Annabelle Daeffler, Harry Rasmussen, Robert (Bob) Rasmussen and Gloria Cooper. 

Those who will cherish Mag’s memory on earth are:  his sons, Jeff (Susan Moriarty) Rasmussen of Ellicott City, MD, Rick (Mary) Rasmussen of Altoona, Wisconsin, David (Lori) Rasmussen of Luck, Wisconsin, Brian (Tammy) Rasmussen of Lake Holcombe, Wisconsin and his daughter, Lisa (Joe) Samson of DeWitt, Michigan; his brother, Hans Rasmussen; grandchildren, Patrick Rasmussen, Collin Rasmussen, Melinda (Jon) Mueller, Kyle (Kelly) Rasmussen, Joanna (Dustin) Ramsey, Monica (Chris) Stark, Brad (Christine) Rasmussen, Ryan (Sabina Statz) Vitalis, Chelsea (Derek) O’Brien, Clayton Samson, and Genevieve Samson; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

Mag’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at United Pioneer Home for the nurturing and kind care that Mag received throughout his stay there.  He often would say, “They treat me like a king here.” 

Memorial donations may be sent to the United Pioneer Home (resident activities). 

A Graveside Service will be held at Luck Village Cemetery on Wednesday, July 22nd at 11:45 a.m. with Rev. Greg Ofsdahl officiating.
