In Memory of Madie Ritchie

June 14, 1931 - March 25, 2021

Madie Pauline Ritchie, 89, of Cumberland passed away March 25, 2021, at Cumberland Care and Rehab.

She was born June 14, 1931 in Cumberland, WI to Arthur Karl and Matilda Jane (Hayes) Nedvidek.

Madie married her husband, friend and partner of nearly seventy-three years, Glenn Ritchie, in Pine City, MN on April 23, 1948.

Madie attended Cumberland High School and graduated in 1949. She was employed for many years at 3M, worked as chairside assistant at the Tempesta Dental Clinic and Madie & Glenn also operated a Montgomery Ward Catalog store in Cumberland. Years later, after their children were establishing their own lives and careers, she enrolled at the Wisconsin Indianhead Technical Institute. She commuted weekly to Superior and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1977. She was a dedicated healthcare worker for the Cumberland Hospital as well as the ECU. Together, Madie and Glenn loved to travel, camp, and gather with friends on the deck. For 29 years they escaped to Texas where they established a winter home and many new friends. She had a special place in her heart for all babies, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Madie loved fiercely, she served humbly and she loved to cook and bake. There were always homemade sugar cookies available if someone happened to drop in for a visit.

She is survived by her husband Glenn Ritchie; children: Jane (Matt) Stone, Jeri (Thomas) Johnson, Jay (Ruby) Ritchie; grandchildren: Sara (Brian) Neuser, Matthew (Jennifer) Johnson, Amber Ritchie, Cosima Walker, Patrick Ritchie; great grandchildren: Brennan Neuser, Connor Neuser, Cullen Johnson, Delaney Johnson, Eila Jane Johnson; sister-in-law, Gloria (Dusty) Weber; many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Matilda Nedvidek.

Private family funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Augustana Lutheran Church with Pastor Shane Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.  Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons and great-grandsons: Matthew Johnson, Cosima Walker, Patrick Ritchie, Brennan and Connor Neuser, and Cullen Johnson.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Cumberland Healthcare, Cumberland Care and Rehab and St. Croix Hospice, all of whom delivered expert care with love, kindness and compassion….the exact same care she delivered to her patients many years ago.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may directed to Augustana Lutheran Church, St. Croix Hospice or the Endeavors Adult Day Center.

Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland/ Turtle Lake is serving the family.
