In Memory of Lyle M. Sauve
Lyle Milton Sauve was born on April 24, 1936 in Iron River, WI. He was the fourth child of Clarence and Lillian (Chantelois) Sauve. Lyle attended school in Iron River, and this is where he met the love of his life, Nancy Walliin. After high school he enlisted for the Army’s 21 month plan.
When his military service was completed, Lyle married Nancy and began attending UW-Superior to become a teacher. While attending college he worked at the Red Owl in Superior. In 1957 a son, Brad, was born. Adding to their growing family, a son, Brett was born in 1961 and a daughter, Brenda, followed in 1963.
After graduating with his teaching degree, Lyle accepted his only teaching job in Amery as an English teacher. He also spent several years working in the Amery High School Library.
Lyle loved sports. He played fast pitch softball in Superior and coached little league and high school baseball. He also spent one year coaching high school softball. He enjoyed cheering for the Mets, Packers, and Badgers.
Lyle and Nancy enjoyed spending time golfing and playing cards with their many friends. In 1994 Lyle retired and he and Nancy began wintering in Bracketville, Texas where they continued to golf, play cards, and met many new friends. Lyle passed away in his home on January 11th surrounded by family and supported by Adoray Hospice.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lillian Sauve, sister LaVerne Evenstad, brothers Clarence “Sonny” Sauve, and Fred “Gordy” Sauve, sister-in-law, Wendy Gruebele.
He is survived by wife Nancy Sauve, sons Brad (Kris) Sauve, Brett (Laura) Sauve and daughter Brenda (Randy) Olson, grandchildren Tom (Jenny) Sauve, Erica Olson, Todd (Jenny) Sauve, Morgan Olson, Jessica (David) Ludgatis, Ryan (McKenzie) Sauve, Rachel Sauve , 13 great grandchildren along with many other nieces, nephews and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Amery. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the mass at the church. Military honors and Lyle’s interment will be at the Amery Cemetery.
