In Memory of Loren W. Bartle

April 22, 1936 - September 18, 2023

Loren William Bartle of Lampson, Wisconsin passed away on  September 18, 2023.

He was born on April 22, 1936 in the town of Gull Lake to his beloved mother Grace (McNitt) and father Frank Bartle.

Loren was known to many as Dawz (as his sister wanted him named Dawson) and he lived life for 87 years, the last six months of which were not his favorite as he could no longer live in his home with his pets. As a child he lived in a couple of different states but then ultimately returned back home to the Gull Lake area. He grew up farming with his mother and younger brother and those homesteads are still family owned. He spent a great deal of time with his mother’s brothers, George and Bill McNitt, who taught him many things in life including the pulp industry and how to play a practical joke. He adored those uncles and had many stories to tell of them.

On March 21, 1956 he married the love of his life, Dianne Lindenfelser, and they started a family. In his early married life he drove school bus for the Spooner School District even though wasn’t technically old enough to be doing so. He did that for a few years and then went back into the pulp business. As the years went by and the family grew he joined the carpenter’s union in Duluth and began his building career which he was in for over 40 years. He was very proud of those years as he was foreman for jobs such as the Tri-Towers on 3rd Avenue in Duluth, the St Mary’s Hospital addition in Superior along with many other large projects. He then went into business with his sons, Dan, Pat and Mike, and they continued to build for many, many years, and included projects like the beautiful stone fireplace that stood in the former Telemark Lodge, the Spooner Veterinary Clinic, a veterinary clinic in River Falls, Scalzo Funeral Home (now Bratley-Nelson) among others too numerous to count.

Loren adored his wife and would often write her poems and was always singing some silly song that he made up. If he had to leave her a note it undoubtedly had a drawing of some kind on it, always humorous. His goal in life was to always make her smile.

Loren and Dianne married at a very young age and were together 63 years when Dianne passed away on May 3, 2019. His happiness and will to thrive was gone when he lost her as he missed her terribly. They are survived by their son Dan (Terry) Bartle, daughter Colleen Scalzo (Jim Perlick), son Patrick (Michelle) Bartle and son Michael (Carlene) Bartle, 10 grandchildren,15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Gary (Sharon) Bartle and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, parents, sisters Marvel Bartle, LaQuita Thompson and Joy Parker, and his son-in-law Leonard Scalzo.

A celebration and time of remembrance for Loren will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023, at the Spooner Funeral Home from 4-6pm.
