In Memory of Loren D. Hennekens


October 9, 1949 - September 10, 2022

Loren David Hennekens Loren was born on October 9, 1930, to Fred and Dorothy Hennekens in Ladysmith, WI.

He graduated from Ladysmith High School in 1949, where he played football and was co-captain of his team.

He passed away in Phoenix, AZ, at his daughter's home on Saturday, September 10, 2022. With his sense of humor, Loren had a million-dollar smile that would light up a room with a definite presence of energy. In his younger years, he enjoyed helping in his community, including 4-H, church, school and dairy associations. He was a fearless, hard-working man who went from dairy farming and running a small garbage collection business to establish and run a large garbage/recycling business (Solid Waste Disposal) in northern Wisconsin until his retirement with Carrol, his beloved wife. Loren loved playing games of all kinds, the outdoors, hunting, fishing and traveling. He was great dancer, golfer, pool player and cribbage player. He enjoyed his winters in Mesa, AZ, as well as traveling during his retirement. He always enjoyed his family, ready to give them a good time and laughter.

Loren is survived by his children Deb and Bob Aaron, Lee Smith, Dave and Janet Hennekens, Denny and Diane Hennekens, Bobbie and Bob Ruder, Doreen and Brian Adams, Della Zappa, Julie Mattmiller and Kim Haase.

He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carrol, his parents, 3 brothers, Duane, Bill and Fred, 2 sisters, Shirley and Delores, 2 sons Kevin LeFevour and Doug Hennekens, 3 sons-in-law, Dan Zappa, Randy Smith and Tom Haase, and 2 grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Butternut Hills Golf Clubhouse on Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 1PM to 4PM. Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI is handling the local arrangements. Memorials may be donated in his name to St. Catherine's Church in Sarona.
