In Memory of Lois Lapcewich


April 13, 1940 - October 19, 2020

Lois Ann Lapcewich, 80, of Cumberland died Monday, October 19, 2020, at her home in the company of her family. She was born April 13, 1940, in Plymouth, WI to Joseph and Rhea (Resimius) Mayhew, was raised in Greenbush, and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1958. She earned her Teaching Degree from Sheboygan Falls Normal School in 1962, then finished her Bachelor of Science - Lower Elementary from UW-Oshkosh in 1969.

She was married in Glenbeulah, WI on June 6, 1970, to John Lapcewich. She taught elementary school in Oshkosh until 1974, then moved to Galax, VA, for 2 years until moving to their permanent home in Cumberland in 1977. Lois worked as a teacher's aid in the Cumberland Elementary School for many years assisting children with learning challenges. Lois also spent time caring for children in their home and at daycare, and volunteered her time with St. Anthony Church's Choir.

She was a loving friend and will be remembered for her contagious laugh, quick smile, and an eager willingness to help anyone in need. She made a positive impact on the lives of many people.

She is survived by her loving husband, John; children: Tonia (Brian) Hyllengren of Hamilton, OH, and Joe Lapcewich of Brooklyn Park, MN; grandchildren: Savannah Juetten and Ashton Hyllengren; sisters: Jill (Jack) Langemak, Bonnie Boesel, and Mary Mayhew, all of Plymouth, WI; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her brother, Bill.

A private family mass will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Tom Thompson officiating and burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association.

Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland is serving the family.
