In Memory of Lila Moore
Lila Gwen Moore, age 90, of Spooner, WI, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 5, 2019. Lila was born on January 11, 1929, in Janesville, WI, the daughter of Glenn and Viola Voigtlander. Her parents moved the family to Des Plaines, IL, where Lila completed the 8th grade before moving to Spooner. Lila graduated from Spooner High School in 1947 and married her high school sweetheart, Myron Moore, on May 31, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Lila lived her life as a Proverbs 31 woman. She was a devoted wife and beloved mother, raising four children. She excelled in the honorable profession of homemaker but also worked outside the home at a cranberry marsh, the Spooner Cooperative Creamery, and the A&W Root Beer Stand. Some of Lila’s many talents included: Gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and refinishing furniture. She was an exceptional hostess and could whip up a meal for unexpected guests with ease. Her door was always open, greeting people with a warm welcoming smile. She was also an active member of her church, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, President of the Ladies Guild, and led/participated in numerous Bible studies. The pages of Lila’s Bible were well worn from daily reading and study.
Lila was an athletic woman playing softball, volleyball, and badminton with her family. She was also an avid bowler on a lady’s league and a mixed doubles league. She enjoyed the outdoors, loved to fish, and to accompany Myron on the trap line and a few elk hunts in Montana. Lila enjoyed reading, playing games, and was competitive when it came to card games like Rook, Pinochle, Spades, Hearts, and others.
Lila is survived by her loving children, Shirley Moore of Shell Lake, WI, Barbara (John) Peters of Neosho, WI, Karen (Richard) Melton of Shell Lake, WI, and Wayne (Cindy) Moore of Spooner; 16 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; her sisters Leona Olson, Beatrice Stafford, and Louise Larson.
