In Memory of Leo Duncan

Leo Dean Duncan, age 91, passed away peacefully at Sophie’s Manor in Centuria, WI on February 22, 2022.

Leo was born in Frederic, WI to Earl and Elnora Duncan.

As a very young man growing up on a farm, he learned to work hard. He graduated from Frederic High School in 1948. In 1951 he married Marian Golz and enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his military service, he came back to the area where he and Marian raised their five children.

Leo was an early entrepreneur and inventor. He owned and operated L.D. Duncan Construction Company where he designed, built and renovated homes, barns, and other structures in Polk and Burnett County and the surrounding area. As an inventor, he designed and produced a squirrel-proof bird feeder and owned a US Patent on a fishing stool that he created. He built bird feeders and bird houses in his garage in Frederic until he was 89.

While construction was his career, ice fishing, deer hunting and being outdoors were things he very much enjoyed. The time spent on Clam Lake and hunting around the Webster area were often topics of conversation.

Leo was funny and quick witted. He made many friends along the way; he was just the kind of person who people liked to be around and a friend you could count on. He was a kind and loving father and grandfather whose humor could be counted on to make everyone laugh.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Delbert and Roy; wives, Marian, June, and Irene; and son, James.

Survivors include his sons, Steven Duncan of Webster, WI, Donald (Michele) Duncan of Chaska, MN; daughters, Janet (Vince) Quast of Chaska, MN, Susan Foster of Clark, SD; daughter-in-law, Arlene Duncan of Oconto Falls, WI; along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Rowe Funeral Home in Frederic on Thursday, March 3rd – visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Leo will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in Frederic with full Military Honors following the service.
