On February 4th, 2022, LaWana (Stoner) Thompson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away at the age of 83 one day before her 84th birthday peacefully at home in the care of Spooner Regional Hospice surrounded by her daughters and family.

LaWana was born in Wheeler Wisconsin on the Stoner family farm the youngest of 13 children to David and Myrtle Stoner.

She later moved to Spooner where she met her late husband Lloyd "Manny" Thompson and raised three daughters Reverend Dawn Helton (William), Dianne Thompson and Doris Langer (Michael). She has eight grandchildren, Heather, Holly, Justin, LaRissa, Kayla Dawn (deceased), Crystal, Jordan, and Ashley.

LaWana has 14 great grandchildren, Jazmine, Taylor, Corbin, Brooklin, Nevaeh, Jisela, Sophia, Gavin, Arianna, Abigail, Gage, Brede, Kendall, and Raylin. LaWana is survived by her brother-in-law Leslie "Babe" Thompson and longtime faithful companion J. Cash Thompson (dog) and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by many beloved siblings, relatives, and friends.

LaWana retired from Miller Brewing Company in Milwaukee and returned to Spooner in 1993. She was renowned for her love of landscaping, bowling, and being active in the community as a member of the Spooner Rifle Club, American Legion, and the Spooner Ladies Birthday Club founded by her mother in the 1950's.

Her passion  and knowledge for gathering plants sparked fond memories passed down through the generations of her family members. LaWana was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone and was always standing up for the underdogs. LaWana was a fun, spirited mother and always had your back. She had an earthy sense of humor and cherished her retirement years in Spooner. She enjoyed hosting Thursday night card parties with family and friends and the many Stoner family reunions.

LaWana leaves behind a strong family that vow to carry on her best character traits of love, devotion, and advocacy. She loved and was loved in return.

A funeral will be held at Spooner Family Funeral Home on Saturday February 12th, 2022. Visitation 10am-11:30am, Service at 11:30am. Interment at Spooner Cemetery and luncheon at the American Legion 1-3pm.
