In Memory of Laura Olufson

December 30, 1934 - September 21, 2019

Laura Olufson, age 84, of Grantsburg, passed away on September 21, 2019, at the Burnett Medical Center in Grantsburg.

Laura was born on December 30, 1934, in International Falls, MN to parents, Josephine (Bly) and Reuben Lewis.  On October 14, 1950, Laura was united in marriage to John Olufson and together they raised four children. In 1955, the couple moved to Minneapolis where Laura was a leader for her daughter’s girl scouts and also for her son’s boy scouts groups in the Lake Harriet area. Then at the age of 38, she attended the Minneapolis Beauty College and cut hair in the area for 25 years. A career she truly enjoyed; Laura loved her clients.

After many years together, John and Laura decided to part ways, but forever remained friends.

A few years later, Laura met Homer Heaton. A man she truly considered to be “the love of her life”. When it came time to retire, the couple moved to a lovely home in the woods they named the Whispering Pines in Danbury. The couple loved spending time at The Hole in the Wall Casino where they met a lot of good friends.

Laura loved to socialize and entertain, especially with her children and grandchildren. She was the most generous, selfless and loving person who always had a special place at her dinner table, especially during the holidays, for those that had no family to go home to. In her free time, Laura also liked to read.

Laura is survived by her children: Sandra (Dick) Klepetka, Timothy Olufson and Dean (Shelly) Olufson; grandchildren: Daniella, Shonna and Ethan; great-grandchildren: Gabriella, Collin, Donte and A.J.; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding Laura in death are her parents; husband, John Olufson; best friend and fiancé, Homer Heaton; daughter, Heidi Elaine Olufson; and brothers, Edwin Lewis and Warren Lewis.

A Celebration of Life Gathering and Potluck will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 2:00pm – 5:00pm at the Big Gust Apartments Party Room in Grantsburg. Please bring a dish to share. Interment will be held at a later date at the Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Webster.
