In Memory of Larry Oftedahl


September 22, 1947 - December 31, 2018

Larry Allan Oftedahl Age 71, of Barron, WI died Monday, December 31, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Glory to God in the highest for the beautiful life that you gave to Larry. Thank you Jesus! He is free.

He was born on September 22, 1947 in Rice Lake to Kenneth and Dorine (Holmstrom) Oftedahl. Larry graduated from the Rice Lake High School in 1965 and farmed and worked at Jennie O Turkey Store in Barron. He made Jesus his Lord and Savior and became a born again Christian and then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966 and was a Navy Seabee Yeoman, 32nd Battalion Naval Construction Unit and served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War and was Honorably Discharged in 1969. Larry received his BA degree in Bible and Missions from North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, MN where he met and married the love of his life, Peggy McVey. They were married on December 18, 1971. After living in Iowa for six years he attended Evangel College in Springfield, Missouri and received a BS degree in Elementary Education with a minor in 9th grade Social Studies. From Missouri they moved to Michigan where he taught in Christian schools, fulfilling one of his passions, and worked in various jobs. He moved the family to Wisconsin in 1992 where he was a full time substitute teacher in Barron and Cameron for 20 years and then worked 2nd shift at Jennie O Turkey Store and retired in 2012. Larry was passionate for God and Country and was a true patriot. In 2004 he ran for the US Congress on the Constitution Party of Wisconsin. He wanted to “Restore the Republic,” which was his campaign slogan. Larry enjoyed reading, gardening, his apple trees and cherry trees. He was on the board of Rice Lake Assembly of God and a state representative of the Constitution Party of WI. Larry supported missions and missionary work.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Oftedahl of Barron, WI; 2 daughters and son-in-law, Michelle and Mark Gabriel of Appleton, WI and Jennifer Oftedahl of Lima, Peru; 3 brothers, Robert Oftedahl of Rice Lake, Richard Oftedahl (Marlene Prill) of Cameron, and Dan (Shellie) Oftedahl of Cameron; four sisters, Joanne Oftedahl of Bacolod, Philippines, Sharon (Tom) Dammer of Rice Lake, Judy (Donald) Jones of Richfield, MN, and Ruth (Roger) Erickson of Barron; 2 sisters-in-law, Brenda Oftedahl of Barron and Phyllis (Paul) Chilton of Chariton, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Paul Stevie McVey of Chariton, Iowa; an aunt, Ardell Hanson of Fridley, MN; many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Dorine Oftedahl; a brother, Marvin Oftedahl; a sister-in-law, Susan Oftedahl.

Funeral Services will be held from 11AM Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Assembly of God Church in Rice Lake, Rev. Alan Klasi officiating, with interment in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI where Military Rites accorded him by the Barron American Legion Post. Visitation will be held from 2-4PM Sunday at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake and for one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the Church on Monday.
