In Memory of Larry A. Swanson


February 19, 1949 - October 18, 2023

Larry Allen Swanson, age 74, a resident of Lauderdale, MN, passed away on October 18, 2023 after a 2-year battle with multiple myeloma. Larry was born on February 19, 1949, in Amery, WI, to parents Kenneth and Jean Swanson.

Larry graduated from Siren High School in 1967. He then attended the Control Data Institute and began working for Control Data Corporation in 1968.

Larry enlisted into the Navy in April 1969. He was stationed on the USS Point Defiance (LSD-31), home port in Long Beach, CA. He served his country until he was honorably discharged in January 1973.

Larry married Jean Ramsdell on June 29, 1969 in Siren, WI, and together they raised two children, Trevor (1972) and Torrey (1976).

Larry worked for General Dynamics, which acquired CDC assets, and retired after 46 years.

Larry loved spending time with his wife, sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and other extended family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting; visiting the “Siren house”; and reading John Sandford, John Grisham, William Kent Krueger, and C.J. Box novels.

His family and friends will miss his storytelling and great sense of humor.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bobby.

He will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 54 years, Jean; sons, Trevor (Erika) and Torrey (Katherine); grandchildren, Oliver and Alma; sister, Linda (Doug) Plath; and his many family members and friends.

The memorial service will take place on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 11:00 AM (visitation from 10-11 AM) at the Siren Covenant Church with Pastor Brian Pardon officiating with full Military Honors following the service.
