In Memory of Kim F. Moen

June 10, 1959 - August 5, 2023

Kim Flogstad Moen, born June 10, 1959, died aged 64 in her home on Shell Lake.

She is survived by her husband, Pete; their three children Elisabeth (Dan), Matthew (Ellen) (Evan, Declan), and Michael; and her siblings Greg (Lynn) and Lynn (Dan).

Kim was a native of Shell Lake, graduating from Shell Lake High School in 1977 with an interest in nursing. After graduating from Gustavus Adolphus College, she worked as a Registered Nurse, first at Abbott Northwestern, and later at Hazelden Teen Rehab Center, where the clients often referred to her as their second mother. Kim was soft-spoken, but firm in living out her values. She found a way to inspire others to be kinder, more inclusive, and made sure everyone in the room felt seen and heard. She taught her children to see the good in all people, and instilled the values that people perceived as different are to be embraced, not feared or ridiculed. She adored her two grandkids, Evan and Declan, singing The Itsy-Bitsy spider ad nauseam per Evan’s requests. Kim lived for being in nature and enjoyed hiking, snow shoeing, all forms of skiing, and sharing the lake with her friends and family. She will be missed, and her loved ones will continue to carry on her love and lessons as a way to honor her life.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 20th 1:00-3:00pm at the Shell Lake Community Center. All memorials will be given to the Down Syndrome Association of Minnesota.
