In Memory of Karl Wichert
Karl F. Wichert, age 91, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Hayward Health Services in Hayward, Wisconsin. He was born July 25, 1927 in Milwaukee, the son of Paul and Alinda (Frietag) Wichert. He was united in marriage to Doris Helen Storm on September 19, 1949 in Milwaukee.
Karl graduated from West Division High School in Milwaukee. He enlisted in the United States Army where he played baseball and football. Karl was employed as a Supervisor of industrial automation for Allen Bradley in Milwaukee and El Paso, TX. He was a sports fan and an avid golfer. He enjoyed fishing and loved living on the lake. Karl was affectionately known as “Gramps” to his four grandsons and five great-grandchildren, whom he was very proud of. He cherished his time spent with all of his family. Karl had a beautiful tenor voice and sang with the Milwaukee Acapela Choristers and the Allen Bradley Chorus and Orchestra, where he was also a choreographer. He looked forward to reading the sports section of the Pioneer Press and loved trips to the casino.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Doris of Hayward; his children, Carol (David) Ackley of Hayward and Tom (Pat) Wichert of Milwaukee; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Karl was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Wichert.
A private committal service will be held at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, where full military honors will be accorded.
