In Memory of Judith M. DeBer


August 31, 1941 - July 6, 2022

Judith Marie DeBer, age 80, of Shell Lake, WI, moved to her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Shell Lake Health Care Center in Shell Lake, WI.

Judy was born in St. Paul, MN on August 31, 1941, to parents, Harvey and Eva-Lynn (Skinner) Schmahl.

Judy attended her first year of school on the East side of St. Paul before moving to South St. Paul with her family at the age of 6. After graduating from high school Judy met Duane DeBer, and the couple married in 1959. The couple bought their first home in South St. Paul and raised 4 of their 7 children there. In 1969 the family moved to a new home in South St. Paul. Judy went on to graduate from nursing school at Dakota County Vocational College in 1979 and began a career as an LPN. After retiring in 1998, the family moved to their dream home in Spooner, WI.

Judy enjoyed gardening, camping, and crocheting. She loved watching birds and spending time with her dogs, but most of all Judy loved her children and grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her children, Carolyn (Craig) Boutiette of Wahpeton, ND, Deena (Steven) Smeltzer of Oceanside, CA, Karla (Don) Reed of Shell Lake, WI, Julie DeBer of Shell Lake, WI, Alicia (Rich) Todd of Forest Lake, MN, Jason (Rose) DeBer of Spooner, WI, and Christine (Stan) Weiser of Brainerd, MN; brother Jeffery (Crystal) Schmahl of Mesa, AZ; and 26 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and a nephew.

She is preceded in death by her husband Duane DeBer; parents, Harvey and Eva-Lynn Schmahl; and grandson, Christian James Todd.

A private service will be held at a later date.
