In Memory of Joyce E. Wade

September 25, 1930 - August 1, 2022

Joyce Elaine Wade, age 91, died in Park Falls on August 1, 2022.

She grew up in Sarona, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin (Mel) Wade, parents Gilman and Mable Huerth, sisters Patricia and Ramona (Boots), and brother Vilas. She is survived by her sister Mavis, her seven children: Sharry, Terryl, Cory, Kevin, Jodi, Jolyn, and Scott, 17 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Joyce was active throughout her life: camping, bowling, horseshoe pitching, pool playing, and dancing. Even into her final years, music brought her joy and she could identify songs and remember lyrics from many different decades.

She could fix almost anything. Whether she was ripping up and replacing carpet, hammering on a construction project, making electrical and plumbing repairs, or reupholstering furniture, nothing intimidated her. She put those skills to work with Mel, fixing up their old house in Rollingstone, Minnesota, and remodeling the motel in Minong. She will be remembered for her get-it-done personality.

And her laugh! She was quick to laugh, especially when her children teased her. We all remember her laughter during unruly card games at family gatherings with Mel, her parents, and family. Playing a feisty game of cards with Joyce was a highlight of her children and grandchildren’s time with her, all the way up to the last months of her life.

The family will hold a private memorial ceremony to celebrate Joyce’s life. She will be buried next to her husband Mel, at Shell Lake Cemetery.
