In Memory of Joyce E. Trotter

July 26, 1926 - March 7, 2023

Joyce Trotter, 96, of Barron, WI passed away Tuesday March 7, 2023, at Heritage Lakeside Nursing Home in Rice Lake, with her daughter, Lori by her side.

Joyce was born July 26, 1926, in Milwaukee, to L.A. and Margaret (Banks) Bauer.

Joyce graduated from Nekoosa High School in 1945 and decided to move to San Diego, CA to become a secretary. Joyce’s mother insisted she have a chaperone, so her older sister, Faye went along.

It was in San Diego where Joyce met Bill Trotter who was stationed there with the US Navy. They married on July 31, 1948, in Nekoosa. Bill and Joyce built their first home in Harmony, MN where he was employed as a Lineman for Dairyland Power out of La Crosse.

In 1962, they relocated to Barron and in 1971, Joyce started her career as a crossing guard for the City of Barron. Joyce loved helping all the children get to and from school by safely crossing Hwy 8.

Joyce loved to travel, and she and Bill spent many winters in North Carolina and Florida, enjoying the warmer climate. Although Bill retired after 40 years with the power company, Joyce just could not give up the job she loved. Her children finally convinced her to retire at the age of 85.

Joyce traveled on many trips with her sisters, Gloria, Janice & Mary Ann to such destinations as Mexico, China & Italy. She especially loved to visit whichever base their twin sons were stationed at, including Seoul, Korea.

Joyce is survived by her 5 children, Mary Ann (Larry) Luehring of Turtle Lake, William (Maree) of Iron River, MI, Patrick (Wendy) of Fayetteville, NC, Michael (Rachel) of Elma, WA and Lori of Barron; grandchildren, Beth, Shane, Kyle, Matthew, Haylee, Alexander, Maxwell, Jake, Nicholas, Delaney and Sidney; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gloria Krekowski of Wisconsin Rapids, Janice (Roger) Schauer of Sarasota, FL and Mary Ann (David) Dabney, also of Sarasota.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years; her parents; an infant granddaughter; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

A mass of Christian Burial for Joyce will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Barron at 11:00 a.m. with Father Chandra Ery officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the church before the service. Burial will be at Northern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
