In Memory of Josephine J. Zahurance
April 1, 1927 - August 14, 2018
Josephine Zahurance, age 91, a resident of Sarona, died on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at Dove Healthcare-West in Eau Claire.
Josephine was born on April 1, 1927, Withee, Wisconsin to parents John and Justyna (Micah) Szurko. She grew up on the family farm near Thorp until during World War II when her father’s work took the family to Kansas, and later to Chicago where he would work for International Harvester. Josephine found work at Western Electric. One day while at a donut shop, she met Paul J. Zahurance, whom she would marry to on February 8, 1947 in Chicago. She would continue to work at several factories and waitress in Chicago until her husband Paul resigned and took an early retirement and they moved to Sarona in 1975. Josephine became Paul’s primary care giver after he suffered a stoke, but would continue to work outside the home in Rice Lake. She was a hard worker and loved being outdoors where she could enjoy growing flowers and gardening, birdwatching, and fishing. She was also a social person and enjoyed dancing, especially the polka, singing, was a past president of the Women’s Auxiliary in Rice Lake, and a member of Hunt Hill. She gave herself to the Lord in 1973, and was an attender of the Cornerstone Church in Spooner with her son Paul A.
Josephine is survived by her sons Paul A. Zahurance of Sarona, Don (Theresa) Zahurance of Cassville, WI, 11 grandchildren: Lynette, Paul C., Aaron, Amanda, Jordan, Alizabeth, Jennifer, Donesa, Andrew, Lori, Grant, 18 great grandchildren ranging from ages 21 years to 3 months old, sister Jeanette Zahurones of Summit Lake, Wisconsin, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Josephine is preceded in death by her husband Paul J. Zahurance, brother John, and sister Judy Maca. Funeral services for Josephine Zahurance will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018, at 1pm, at the Cornerstone Church with Andrew Melton officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11-1pm at the Church. Interment will follow at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the interment at the church. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
