In Memory of Jon R. Owens

April 5, 1946 - March 4, 2025

Jon Robert Owens, age 78, of Comstock entered his Heavenly Home on March 4, 2025. He was at home with his wife by his side. He was born April 5, 1946, in Rice Lake, WI, to Lloyd and Norma (Zimbeck) Owens.

Jon was raised in Cumberland primarily living at Idlewild Resort on Beaver Dam Lake. During his teenage years, he loved to swim, fish and hunt, and he developed a great love for the outdoors that continued throughout his life. He graduated from Cumberland High School in 1964.

Jon was married on April 15, 1967, to Anna Kleinschmidt at the Little Brown Church in Iowa. During his early years, Jon held a few different jobs including working for Friesses Minnow Farm, and he and Ann purchased a farm in Comstock, WI. In 1972, he went to Alaska to work on the pipeline for about six summers until he returned permanently to Wisconsin when he started dairy farming. After about 20 years of dairy farming, Jon transitioned to beef and crop farming. He also owned a radiator shop in Milltown for a period of time until he decided to operate a traveling saw mill business and continue with beef cattle in his semi-retirement.

Jon’s favorite pastimes included fishing, hunting, playing cribbage and his standing Monday night poker game. He became an avid gardener with great sweet corn, squash and pumpkin fields. Family and friends will remember Jon having a bright, cheerful and light heart. They will also remember how quick he was to lend a hand in time of need and his jokes.

Jon will be dearly missed by his wife, Ann Owens; son, Chad (Stacy) Owens; daughters, Heidi (Stephen) Fisher and Kimberly (Colin) Johnson; grandchildren, Jack and Eli Owens, Reagan and Kendall Fisher, and Dalton, Josephine and Rosslyn Johnson; siblings-in-law, Carl (Eunice) Kleinschmidt, Bernice Sellent, Jerry (Margaret) Kleinschmidt, David (Nancy) Kleinschmidt, Betty (Wayne) Butzler, and Lois Owens; as well as many other nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Norma Owens; brother, Roger "Max" Owens; sisters, Rita (Duane) Franz, JoAnne (Roger) Robertson; siblings-in-law, Beverly Owens, Howard, Daniel, and Judy Kleinschmidt and Clarence Sellent.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor John Miels officiating. Pallbearers are Chad, Jack and Eli Owens; Colin and Dalton Johnson; and Stephen Fisher.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 21, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. at Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Private interment at Lakeside Cemetery will be held at a later date.
