John Richard Mongerson Age 92, of Rice Lake, WI, died Monday, December 25, 2023 at his home.

He was born on September 22, 1931 in Geneva, Illinois to Adolph and Anne (Askeland) Mongerson.

John graduated from St. Charles Community High School in 1949 and then attended the University of Illinois until 1954. He entered the United States Army in1954 and was Honorably Discharged in 1956. He operated a beef farm from 1956-1961 in the St. Charles area. On February 3, 1962 he was married to Beverly Clark in St. Charles. John became a territorial manager for Standard Oil after his marriage to Bev until 1976. He purchased the Credit Bureau of Menomonie until 1998 when he sold the business and retired. He was a member of the Rice Lake Elk’s Lodge, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity in Illinois and Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake. John was very interested in sporting events. He attended 16 Final Four Basketball tournaments, 2 Rose Bowl and other Bowl games, 2 World Series Baseball games, Super Bowl XX, Kentucky Derby ,Stanley Cup Hockey Finals and when Illinois teams would play at Madison or Minneapolis he would attend.

He is survived by his son, Steven (Kimberly) Mongerson; a daughter, Laurie Daly; 5 grandchildren, Brianna (Ryan), Mason, Hayden (Riley), Nathan and Katelyn; 3 great grandchildren, Rowen, Jack and Stevie; a sister, Nancy (Bill) Warner; a sister-in-law, Marsha (Cal) Black; a special friend, Donna Meggers Gagner; many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Mongerson; and his parents, Adolph and Anne Mongerson.

Funeral Service will be held at 11AM Friday, January 5, 2024 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, Rev. Arthur Bergren officiating, with interment in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake is serving and assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake.
