John Paul Prellwitz, age 93, of Amery, WI passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

John was born on August 1, 1930 to Paul and Delia (Shoop) Prellwitz in St. Paul, MN. He grew up and attended school there, graduating from Central High School in St. Paul. After graduation, John enlisted into the Navy where he was stationed on the air craft carrier, “USS Hancock,” and served during the Korean War. When his time in the service ended, he then enrolled into college at Ohio State where he met Mary Jane Forman. John and Mary Jane both graduated with their Master’s Degree in Education in 1959. On March 14, 1959, John and Mary Jane were united in marriage in Columbus, Ohio.

The couple moved to the Twin Cities to pursue their teaching careers in Hopkins, MN. While living in Hopkins, John and Mary Jane had two children, Polly and Warren. In 1974, they moved the family to Amery, WI. It was here that John and Mary Jane would raise their family on their dairy farm north of Amery. They later built their retirement home on Pike Lake. Mary Jane passed away at their home on Pike Lake in 2014, and John continued to live there until he recently had to move into assisted living.

John taught art for many years and loved painting with water colors and creating pottery. He also loved being outdoors, especially cutting wood or just tinkering on things at the farm.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Jane; and sisters, Patricia and Shirley. He is survived by his children, Polly (Dale) Kersten and Warren (Cindy) Prellwitz; grandchildren, Kellen (Kellin S) Kersten, Erik (Brianna) Kersten, Cody (Cindy) Prellwitz, and Ashley (Mitch) Hoff; and great-grandchildren, Ivy Rose and Scotlyn Louise.

There will be a private family service at Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery, WI, followed by a burial at the Amery Cemetery with military honors.
