In Memory of John K. Overman
John Kevin Overman, age 70, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at his residence in Hayward, Wisconsin.
He was born on February 15, 1954 in Hayward, the son of Chelcie and Merl (Holcomb) Overman. He was united in marriage to Darlene Amelia Johnson on July 12, 1977 in Cable, Wisconsin. John drove a school bus in the Hayward area for over twenty years. After some formal training, he worked as a cook at various restaurants in the Hayward and Cable areas. John also worked at the Hayward Tree Nursery, the Wood Factory, the lumber yard and the ski lifts at Telemark. John decorated his home with his expansive collection of toy cars and trucks. He also enjoyed metal detecting and several types of crafts, including cross stitching, drawing, and beading. He had always enjoyed the beauty surrounding him in the Northwoods, especially watching all the birds. He loved the color purple, and his first truck was a two toned purple and white. He was a football and baseball fan who enjoyed watching the Brewers. He also liked old school NASCAR, especially when Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. were racing.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Darlene of Hayward; his son, Matt Overman of Hayward; his siblings, Gerald (Kathy) Overman of Hayward, Jim (Jeri) Overman of Drummond, Russ Overman of Hayward and Lynn (Mike) Kavanagh of Hayward; his uncle, Basil “Buzz” (Judy) Holcomb of Hayward; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Chelcie and Merl Overman; his daughter, Melissa “Missy” Overman; his father and mother-in-law Harold and Edna Johnson; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
