
In Memory of John “Jack” S. Nelson
John “Jack” Simon Nelson, age 90, of Birchwood, WI, died Thursday, April 24, 2025 in Marshfield, WI.
He was born on April 23, 1935 in Hendrum, Minnesota to Norval and Luella (Hviding) Nelson. Jack graduated from Hendrum High School in 1953. He was drafted into the United States Army and was later Honorably Discharged. Jack then attended Moorhead State University for a year and then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1957. He served during the Vietnam War and served our country until 1977 and was Honorably Discharged as a E6 Petty Officer. Jack also worked for the United States Postal Service for 27 years in Minneapolis, MN and Irvine, California. He was married to Sharon Peterson Bricko on October 4, 1980 in Minneapolis, MN. He was a staff writer for the Basketball programs for Mater Dai High School and Southern California Prep. Jack enjoyed watching all sports, traveling, go on long walks and talking with his Navy buddies.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Nelson; a son, Stanley (Jessica) Nelson; a daughter, Crystal (Ray) Tovar; 3 stepchildren, Cindy (Steve) Lobitz, Carla (Mike) Burchett and Connie (Rockey) Duke; 5 grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters; 14 step great grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Olson; 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norval and Luella Nelson.
Military Rites and graveside services will be held at the Fargo National Cemetery in Fargo, North Dakota at a later date.
