Bill Paulson, age 94, a lifelong resident of Spooner, died on Sunday, September 4, 2016, at the Maple Ridge Care Center in Spooner.

Guy W Paulson was born on March 26, 1922, in Spooner, Wisconsin to parents Guy and Esther (Ottel) Paulson.  Bill was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Spooner.  He attended the Spooner Schools, the Class of 1940, where he excelled in Football and Basketball.  Bill enlisted in the US Navy in 1942, and served in the American, European, and Asiatic Theaters as a 2nd Class Petty Officer.  On May 16, 1945, he was united in marriage to Ruth Postweiler and was discharged later that year.  Bill transferred his Military commitment to the Wisconsin National Guard where he was assigned to the Spooner Tank Co. in the famous Wisconsin 32nd Division as a Tank Commander, and then transferred to the Minnesota Air Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1974.  During this time, Bill established a Heating and Plumbing business in Spooner and became a Master Plumber.  Bill served his City and County in many capacities such as serving on the Spooner City Council, Washburn County Board for over 30 years, a continuous member of the American Legion for over 70 years, and Mayor of Spooner for 19 years.  Bill was a hard working man who liked staying busy and helping people any way he could.  He loved to hunt, fish, supporting the Spooner Rails, Packers, Brewers, and most of all spending time at his cabin on the Trego Flowage.  

Bill is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ruth of Spooner, sons: Pete of Shell Lake, Steve of Spooner, grandchildren Joshua and Jacob, and 3 great grandchildren.   He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Arnold, sister in law Elaine Anderson, and nephews David and Sydney.

Memorial services for Bill Paulson will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016, at 11am, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Russ Leeper officiating.  Visitation will be held on Friday, at the Church from 10-11am.  Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  Online condolences may be left at www.bratley-nelsonchapels.com
