In Memory of Johann Svacina


February 19, 1932 - August 22, 2019

Johann Gloria Svacina, 87, of Rice Lake died, August 22, 2019, at Woodstone Assisted Living. She was born February 19, 1932, in Barron, WI to Arthur and Vivian (Kimmel) Hanson; and moved to Rice Lake, WI while in grade school. Johann graduated from Washington High School in 1951. She worked as a nurses aid at the Rice Lake St. Joseph Hospital, Rice Lake Pharmacy, Sakes Clothing Store, and at the General Telephone Company as an operator. She was married at St. Joseph Church, Rice Lake on May 16, 1953, to Alois "Ole" Svacina who preceded her in death on December 18, 2012. They moved in Zion, IL after getting married and returned to Rice Lake in 1955 to take over the family farm.

Johann was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary. She volunteered at the Marshfield Clinic and Mayo Clinic in Rice Lake. Johann enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, flower gardening, baking, ceramics, embroidery, and crafts. Most of all, she loved being with her family.

She is survived by one son, Timothy (Gisele) Svacina of Rice Lake; three daughters: Joyce Svacina of Rice Lake, Jane (Jim) Viehauser of Weyerhaeuser, Debra (Jerry) Doubek of Chetek; nine grandchildren: Jason Breed, Becky Dyar, Sheri Brunette, Ashlea Olson, Jordan Meyers, Michelle Alverman, Cory Svacina, Nicholas Doubek, and Jill Dickerson; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends. Johann was preceded in death by her husband Alois; parents, Arthur and Vivian Hanson; twin sister, Joyce Hanson; sister, Betty Thome; brother, Eugene Hanson; and great-grandson, Ashton Breed.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, August 29, 2019, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church - Dobie with Father Dave Oberts and Father Ed Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be for 2 hours prior to the Mass.

Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland/ Turtle Lake is serving the family.
