Jimmy L. Atkinson, Sr., age 84, of Shell Lake died Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Spooner Health. He was born March 6, 1935 in Dewey, WI to Cyrus and Marjorie (Walker) Atkinson, was raised on the family farm and attended McCarthy School then Shell Lake High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1958 and served 2 years including a year spent in Germany. He was married in Pine City, MN on June 26, 1962 to Sandra Thompson. They lived in Chicago for 6 years and he worked as an auto mechanic before purchasing a farm and moving back to the Dewey Twp. to raise their family. He retired from farming in 1988, then took a position as custodian at Shell Lake Schools. He worked 10 years until health forced his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy of Shell Lake; children: Patricia (Noel) Beaufeaux of Elk Mound, Lisa (Dan) Otto of North Branch, MN, Jimmy, Jr. of Stacy, MN and Kristen (Scott) Carls of Shell Lake; grandchildren: Kyle, Bekka, Mitchell and April Beaufeaux, Marjorie (Carl Fisk) and Charles Otto, Kimberly and Darren Sahlstrom, Jannah and Brianna Williams, Aaron (Niki), Cassandra and Elizabeth Carls; 4 great grandchildren: Thea Beaufeaux, Ellyana Sahlstrom, Jeremiah Sahlstrom and Scarlet Skluzacek; Russell Atkinson of Webster, Curt (Myrna) Atkinson of Shell Lake, Lyle Atkinson of Shell Lake, Jerry Atkinson of Gaston, OR and Johnny Atkinson of Menomonie. He was preceded in death by siblings: Tommy, Kathleen Hotchkiss, Cyrus, Ed, Robert and Dale.

A Celebration of Jimmy's Life and sharing of memories will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Skinner Funeral Home in Shell Lake with visitation for 2 hours prior to the service. Military honors will be accorded immediately following the service and a meal will follow at Salem Lutheran Church in Shell Lake.
