In Memory of Jerelyn Skoug

April 24, 1955 - November 5, 2021

Jerelyn (Jeri) Jean Skoug, age 66, born April 24, 1955, passed away on the morning of November 5, 2021 after an extended illness with kidney cancer. Jeri lived in Amery nearly her entire life.

After graduation from Amery High School in 1973, she worked in Housekeeping in several area Nursing Homes until her retirement. Jeri was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a devoted attendee of weekly mass. It was her deep and abiding faith that gave her strength through her many health struggles through the years. Jeri was a beloved daughter to her parents, Walt and Fern, and enjoyed frequent visits to their home on Bear Trap Lake, where she cared for them in their later years. It was here that her love of being “at the lake” and riding in the boat began. She relished a good boat ride and was a good sport about tubing and swimming in the lake. Jeri’s life revolved around her family and friends. She loved nothing more than a spirited evening of playing card games and board games while visiting. She was famous for “sandbagging” at cards, but no matter the game, she was always humble in her many victories. Jeri’s passion for and hearty laughter playing games, and just getting together with the people she loved will be greatly missed. She was a dear sister, aunt and great aunt who enjoyed spending time with and generously spoiling her nieces and nephews with clothes, books, puzzles, and toys. She loved attending plays, musicals and concerts, and was especially dedicated to the performances when family members were involved; she was our biggest fan. The entire family can attest that Jeri never missed sending a birthday card which usually were signed “Love and Happiness Always”. We were blessed with Jeri’s kindness, caring and love and she will forever be in our hearts.

She was preceded in death by her parents Walter J. and Fern G. (Hanson) Skoug of Amery, WI; and brother Joel A. Skoug of Osceola, WI; and is survived by siblings Jackie (Eric) Goplin of Osseo, WI; John (Connie) Skoug of Osseo, WI; and James (Brooksy) Beilke-Skoug of Madison, WI, nine nieces and nephews and six great-nieces and nephews; Julie Goplin of Osseo; Bradley (Jada) Goplin and son Orlin of Osseo, WI; Jennica (Andrew) Walsh and daughter Marrion of Madison, WI.; Eric (Shannon) Skoug and daughter June of Portland, OR; Evan Skoug of Fort Worth, TX; Joshua Skoug and son Ethan of Osceola, WI; Tiaonna Corbett and children Seth and Fionna of Havelock, NC; Janson Beilke-Skoug of Chicago, IL; and Logan Beilke-Skoug of Madison, WI.

Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the many doctors, nurses and social workers at the Amery Hospital & Clinic, Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN, the Amery Fitness Center (John was a name mentioned with fondness) and Davita Dialysis who went above and beyond to provide her care. Special thanks to Mary Doll, a lifelong friend and our go-to confidant in caring for Jeri; and to Jane Osborne and Jeanne Morrissette, Jeri’s cousins and best friends who shared many outings together filled with fun and laughter.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, November 13 at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Balsam Lake, WI. Visitation will be at 11 am, followed by Mass at 12 pm and a luncheon immediately thereafter.

Burial will take place at the Amery Cemetery following lunch.
