In Memory of Jeffrey Buhr
Jeffrey Anthony Buhr, age 77, of Lake Nebagamon, WI went to be with his Lord on April 23, 2020 in his home, with loved ones around him, after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born in LaCrosse, WI on November 23, 1942 to John (Jack) Buhr and Esther Hoheisel. He graduated from Superior Central High School in 1960 and married Diana Hanson in 1963 in Superior, WI.
Jeff and Diana moved around a lot in the early years of their marriage. They lived in many towns in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Kansas before finally settling back in the Superior area with their young family in 1976. Jeff worked many different jobs including the YMCA for several years in Washington, Iowa as Program Director and then as Executive Director in Pittsburg, KS.
Jeff always had the dream of finishing his college education and becoming a teacher so when the family moved back, he graduated with a BS degree in Elementary Education and Physical Education from the University of Wisconsin-Superior, along with a Master’s Degree in Administration. He taught at East Junior High School for the bulk of his career, teaching American History. He finished the last three years teaching 4th grade at Four Corners Elementary School.
Jeff retired in 1997. He and his wife then spent a lot of time in Arizona - between Lake Havasu City and later Kingman. Part of the time they were snowbirds only and then for several years they lived in Kingman year-round.
Throughout his life, Jeff was passionate about sports, playing most sports growing up. He coached youth for most of his life as well – football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, curling, and golf. He enjoyed following his grandson’s sporting teams at Northwestern High School and UW-Superior. His favorite activity was golfing, achieving 9 documented hole-in-ones during his lifetime. He looked forward to his morning golf scramble at Botten’s Green Acres. He was still talking about golfing before he passed away!
Jeff was active in their local churches in Iowa, Kansas, Wisconsin and Arizona, as an Elder or Deacon. He also enjoyed serving on the Village Board of Lake Nebagamon for several years as well, only resigning from the board earlier this month.
He has many fond memories of spending summers as a boy at his aunt and uncle’s farm in Lastrup, MN. The days were filled with “Hoheisel family” cousins, baseball games, picking rocks, all manner of farm chores and even an unruly draft horse!
Jeff leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Diana; daughter Wendy (Tim) Corry of Lake Nebagamon and their children Aaron (Jayme) Corry and Jessica Corry; son Trevor Buhr and his daughter Katie of Kingman, AZ; granddaugher-in-law Deanna Corry and two great-grandsons, Gunnar and Finn of Birchwood, WI. Brothers Allen (Janet) Buhr of Ronan, MT; Bradley (Barb) Buhr of Superior, WI; brother-in-law Jon (Ingrid) Hanson of Madison, WI and many nieces and nephews.
Jeff is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Brad Corry.
A Celebration of Jeff’s life will be held at a future date due to CoVid19.
