In Memory of Jeanne Stromberg
Jeanne Martin Stromberg, age 94, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Brentwood Assisted Living in Rice Lake, WI.
Jeanne was born on June 8, 1927 in Halstad, MN and raised on the family farm near Glyndon, MN.
The daughter of Tenny and Lillian Enger, she graduated from Glyndon High School and was the sole surviving member of the class of 1944. Jeanne went on to attend business school in Moorhead, MN and worked bookkeeping jobs at Horvick Electric Motor Co. and W. W. Wallwork Ford. While at Wallwork, she met Erwin Martin from Fertile, MN and they married October 9, 1948. Three children were born to this union (Steven, Connie and Roger). They moved to the Lake Minnetonka area in 1953 where they started Martin’s Texaco in the town of Navarre and operated this business for 35 years. Jeanne also worked at Orono Schools in Long Lake, MN as Payroll Administrator from 1972 until 1988. In 1988 they retired to Crosslake, MN where they owned a lake home. Erwin passed away in 1993 and Jeanne remained in Crosslake. In 1999 she married Wayne Stromberg who she met at Crosslake Lutheran where they both were members. Jeanne and Wayne travelled extensively and took wonderful care of one another in retirement. Their two families quickly bonded and remain close friends. Wayne passed away in 2012 and Jeanne moved to Rice Lake, WI in 2014 to be nearer son Roger and his wife Peggy. Jeanne was a lifelong Lutheran and was baptized at Halstad Lutheran Church (Halstad, MN) and confirmed at Glyndon Lutheran Church (Glyndon, MN). As an adult she was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (Orono, MN), Trinity Lutheran Church (Long Lake, MN), Crosslake Lutheran Church (Crosslake, MN) and Bethany Lutheran Church (Rice Lake, WI). Jeanne was a busy quilter for the last 50 years. She made quilts for all her family members and a few close friends. Additionally she worked tirelessly at Crosslake Lutheran and Bethany Lutheran in Rice Lake making quilts for Lutheran World Relief, Camp Knutson/Lutheran Social Service and other fundraising efforts. Family members knew not to call when the Minnesota Twins were playing. Only her “sister” Betty was allowed to interrupt TV broadcasts to discuss game strategy and their latest favorite players. She received a personal video message from Twins TV announcer Dick Bremer in honor of her 94th birthday.
Jeanne is survived by children Steven Martin of Mound, MN; Connie Johnson (Steve) of Kingwood, TX; Roger Martin (Peggy) of Rice Lake, WI; grandchildren Erik Johnson (Stephanie) of Lee, NH; Lauren Martin (Seth) of Altoona, IA; great grandchildren Erik Jr. and Crosby Johnson of Lee, NH; stepchildren Linda Rhea of Iowa City, IA; Bruce Stromberg (Kris) of Wickenburg, AZ; Kathy Millard (Ivan) of Breezy Point, MN; step grandchildren Jason Syvaoja (Kaisa) of Duluth, MN; Bill Stromberg (Katie) of Loomis, CA; Krista (Ken) Miller of Pleasant Prairie, WI; Sarah Ostroviak of Prior Lake, MN; Paul Millard of Breezy Point, MN; step great grandchildren Maiju and Eemil Syvaoja of Duluth, MN; Clara Stromberg of Loomis, CA; Addison Miller of Pleasant Prairie, WI; Noah Ostroviak of Prior Lake, MN; Avery and Finnlea Millard of Breezy Point, MN.
