In Memory of Jeanette J. (Ryan) Alwes

August 1, 1924 - February 17, 2025

Jeanette Joyce Alwes passed away on February 17, 2025 at the age of 100. She was residing at Hayward Health Services in Hayward, Wisconsin.

Jeanette was born in Elkhorn, WI, where she met her husband, LaVerne Leo Alwes. A few years after their three boys were born, they moved to Gordon, WI where together they built their resort, Lover’s Sunny Point. After many years of running the resort and making many lifelong friends, they decided to get out of the hospitality business. Jeanette and LaVerne loved snowmobiling and spent much time on the trails with friends. We’ve been told that Jeanette was the first woman school bus driver in the state of Wisconsin, we’re not sure if that’s true or not, but we’re all sticking with that story!

Jeanette enjoyed cooking and baking, she dabbled with sewing and crocheting, but one of her main loves was gardening. She loved flowers and had quite the green thumb. Jeanette was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary in Gordon. She was also a member of the Altar Society at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gordon where she was a faithful member.

Jeanette is survived by her sons, Randy (Lynne) Alwes and Kim (Barb) Alwes; her grandchildren, Jennifer Alwes Whitlock, Scott Alwes, Ryan Alwes, Matthew Alwes and Michael Alwes; her great-grandchildren, Macy, Dylan, Christian, Ethan, Nolyn, Fynn, Ascher, Ryan and Kim Jr; and many dear friends. Jeanette was predeceased by her son, Gary Alwes and her husband, LaVerne Alwes. A memorial Mass and interment will be announced in the spring.
